Lamborghini's Move Towards Electric Power: Revealing the Innovative Lamborghini Lanzador

أهم العناوين

Is it an SUV? Is it a raised sedan? No, according to Lamborghini, the Landazor represents a completely new category – an 'Ultra-GT' designed to establish a connection between the Urus and the brand's supercars. The exciting part? It still embodies the unmistakable Lamborghini aesthetic – characterized by aggression and sharp angles – albeit in a strikingly altered form with increased length and elevation.

Oh, and here's the noteworthy detail: it's an all-electric vehicle. Did we overlook mentioning that? Indeed, this marks the much-anticipated fourth model, joining the ranks of the Revuelto, Urus, and the upcoming Huracán replacement (all set to be plug-in hybrids by the end of 2024). Initial deliveries are expected in 2028. While the wait is considerable, CEO Stephan Winkelmann is unequivocal about this development, describing it as a "definite preview of the production vehicle."

Although officially labeled as a concept, it's unmistakably close to a showroom-ready model, particularly evident from the press release loaded with intriguing details. The disclosure reveals that the vehicle will feature two electric motors, one on each axle, generating a power output surpassing a megawatt, equivalent to around 1,350 horsepower in traditional units. The press release highlights additional features such as rear-wheel steering, self-levelling air suspension, and a cutting-edge high-performance battery ensuring an extended range. While the exact range remains unspecified, Lamborghini CEO Winkelman indicates a minimum of 300 miles, anticipating a potential increase to around 400 miles within the next five years.

The groundbreaking platform is set to be shared with other high-end EVs within the VW Group, albeit uniquely tuned by Lamborghini. Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr emphasizes the significant advancements, stating, "We are elevating Lamborghini integrated driving dynamics control to an unprecedented level, a feat not achievable in production sports cars before. This promises our customers an entirely novel driving experience," referring to the newly-developed Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) driving dynamics control system.

In simpler terms, there's an increased number of sensors and actuators actively communicating to finely control the car's handling. This means the system can quickly adjust the torque distribution between the front and rear axles, with 'active e-torque' seamlessly shifting it between the two rear wheels. In essence, despite its expected substantial weight, the car is designed to have impressive grip, smooth shifts, and superior handling.

The exterior design draws inspiration from the new Countach (notice the razor-slim headlights), Sesto Elemento, and Murcielago, according to the Head of Design, Mitja Borkert. While the lifted stance and massive 23-inch wheels may take some getting used to, the body maintains the low and wide characteristics typical of Lamborghinis. The front, rear, and elegantly creased surfaces stay true to the recognizable Lamborghini style. Additionally, active aerodynamics are cleverly integrated beneath the surface at both ends, enhancing downforce during sharp turns and reducing resistance for improved range and higher speeds.

Inside, a skeleton Y-shaped center console separates driver and passenger, with fresh air beneath and a 'pilot's unit' rotary control for air conditioning and entertainment on top. Because theatrical, an absolutely unneeded flip-up cover and start button are brought over from the combustion cars, and in addition to an instrument screen for the driver, there's a second one for the passenger to prod. There's also plenty of storage space, including a trunk with custom baggage if a standard bag won't suffice, as well as the option to fold the back seats and elevate the boot floor to make a flat(ish) loading surface.

It's undoubtedly unique, but perhaps not as crazy as Lambo would have us believe... After all, numerous early Lambos, such as the Espada, were 2+2 GTs, so there's precedent here, albeit without the jacked-up ride height to allow a skateboard battery and satisfy current desires for a higher-seating position. Whatever Lamborghini is doing is working - the Lanzador idea follows on the heals of record financial figures for Lamborghini in the first half of 2023, with 5,341 vehicles sold (up 5% vs 2022) and a profit of €456 million (up 7.2%).
